Dr. Gillian McMahon, National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology, DCU, Dublin

Graduated from Dublin City University in 1992 with a first class honours degree in Analytical Science. She then went to work with Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, Macclesfield, U.K. as an analytical chemist for two years. She returned to Ireland to carry out a PhD in analytical chemistry in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Following a year spent as a lecturer in chemistry, she joined Bristol-Myers Squibb as an analytical development chemist in 1998. In the year 2000, she joined the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR) at Dublin City University as a senior research fellow. Currently, she is Group Research Manager of the Chemical Sensors Group in the NCSR and holds an academic post in the School of Chemical Sciences. Her research interests include the characterisation and analysis of peptides, pharmaceuticals and sensor molecules using spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, the development of biomedical devices and investigation of new diagnostic methodologies.
