Irish Cancer Society volunteer driver Roisin Ryan

Meet Roisin, an Irish Cancer Society volunteer driver

Roisin Ryan from Dublin has been a driver for the Society’s Volunteer Driver Service since 2011 and has completed over 150 drives to date. Roisin also volunteers on Daffodil Day, coordinating the Stillorgan Shopping Centre stand every year.

“Like everyone, my family has been touched by cancer. When I retired, I heard an ad on the radio looking for volunteers to drive patients to their chemotherapy appointments. As I had more free time and a car available I decided to sign up and have been driving for the service ever since.

“Volunteering for the Society is a very rewarding activity and isn’t a big time commitment. The service is so well organised and very practical for people. You get instant gratification from the patients who use the service and by driving them it means that they have one less thing to worry about during a very stressful time.”

By supporting Daffodil Day you can ensure that we can continue to provide emotional and practical support like the Volunteer Driver Service. Help us to help the thousands of people who receive a cancer diagnosis in Ireland every year by volunteering or donating on Friday, 23 March.
