National Declutter Day Saturday 27th September 2014

Ireland’s third National Declutter Day takes place on Saturday 27th September 2014. As well as supporting your favourite charity and helping the environment, this unique event also promotes the many personal benefits of decluttering.    Decluttering is a task that many of us find challenging. So much more than putting unwanted or broken items into black bags, it’s a therapeutic process that often requires a change in mindset, bringing many short and long-term gains. National Declutter Day encourages you to:

  • Declutter to feel good
  • Donate to charity
  • Reuse and recycle

Founder of National Declutter Day, Breda Stack, The Declutter Therapist, is on a mission to get everyone in Ireland decluttering. A nature lover with a passion for good causes, Breda created National Declutter Day in 2011 to tie together the different aspects of her work and highlight the win-win nature of decluttering. Champion of ‘Declutter to feel good’, Breda creates awareness around the many benefits of decluttering in the areas of family, home, social, health, finance and career.

Donating to charity is a feel-good exercise and a great way to extend the life of your unloved items. The official charity partners for National Declutter Day 2014 are Enable Ireland, Oxfam Ireland, Irish Cancer Society, Gorta-Self Help Africa and DEBRA Ireland. Your donations will go a long way to support the work of these worthy causes. Check with your charity in advance to see what’s being accepted and drop items directly to your local charity shop after decluttering.  National Declutter Day advocates reusing and recycling as activities that benefit the environment, the community and local businesses. Southern Region Waste Management Office (SRMWO), Freetrade Ireland and SMILE Resource Exchange are supporting National Declutter Day 2014. Catering for different requirements, there are many convenient and ecologically-friendly ways to part with your unwanted goods. Gathering great momentum in three short years, some previous National Declutter Day participants have taken the opportunity to declutter for the first time in their lives. Breda says “I’ve never yet met a person who didn’t feel less stressed and overwhelmed after decluttering. Do yourself, your favourite charities and our beautiful environment a favour and get stuck in this National Declutter Day!” Join National Declutter Day now on www.nationaldeclutterday.ie and you’ll also receive Breda’s free Decluttering TV tips.
