Profile: Michelle, breast cancer survivor
Michelle is a breast cancer survivor from Tipperary.
“Three years ago I found a lump in my left breast. I ignored it for about 3 months, mainly out of embarrassment of having to show my boob to the doctor - pure silly! When it didn't go away I plucked up the courage to go to my GP.”
Michelle was diagnosed with grade 3 Invasive Ductail Carcinoma. She had a lumpectomy and then chemotherapy followed by 33 rounds of radiotherapy. She’s finished treatment now and wants to let other women know that they can get through it too.
“The advice I would give other woman going through this is undoubtedly your life will go on hold for 12 months and you think you won't ever feel normal again but you eventually get there. You'll have days where you just cry and cry and this is perfectly normal.
"Take all the help that is offered, I had great family and friends that helped out around the home and especially with my children.”
