Rathfarnham Spin-a-thon to raise funds for Kilimanjaro Trek

Local Rathfarnham lady Gemma Connolly is planning to take on the challenge of her life and the might of Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society’s as part of its Trek4Life team.

Mount Kilimanjaro stands at a might 5895 meters / 19,340 feet. This 8 day trek over the Machame route is known for being one of the toughest but most rewarding treks out there. She hopes to raise over €5,000 which will help make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer in Ireland through cancer research.

Before she laces up her hiking boots however, they are planning a gruelling 10 hour spin-a-thon on Saturday 12th May and they need your support!

Come along to Allover Fitness, Grange Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14  between 9am and 6pm and challenge yourself to spin for one hour and raise a minimum of €25 and spin your heart out for this great cause!

Gemma Connolly said “Each year in Ireland, there are 30,000 people newly diagnosed with cancer and over 8000 people die from the disease. When I hard that statistic it really had a profound impact on me. When I saw the Kilimanjaro trek being advertised I thought now there’s a challenge for me! I am climbing this mountain for everyone who is going through a cancer journey and to help the ICS ensure their journey has a better outcome. 2 years ago I was over 4 stone heavier and terribly unfit, having turned my life around thanks to the training and support of Damien Carey from Allover Fitness I thought it was also a great personal challenge to achieve”
