Cancer survivors, dressed in purple t-shirts, are celebrated as the VIPs of Relay who provide hope and inspiration to the whole community in the fight against cancer.

At Relay, a survivor is anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer.

As people take time to remember, those who have walked alongside others battling cancer can grieve and find healing.

Relay For Life is about a community taking up the fight against cancer. Through Relay For Life, communities work together to raise awareness of cancer and to raise money to fund vital research and services of the Irish Cancer Society.

Already in 2017, Relay For Life events have taken place in UCC, UCD, NUI Galway, DCU, Maynooth University, Carlow, Donegal and Kilkenny.
