“Being a unicorn for the day is the least I can do”
Tara Pollard is one of our incredible fundraisers. For the past number of years, she has spent Daffodil Day on the streets of Dublin, dressed as a unicorn to raise vital funds for cancer patients.
"So, we can't stop... we can't stop fighting back"
“I grew up in Offaly but am living my adult life in Dublin. I work for Mastercard, who are very passionate about supporting local causes and every Daffodil Day they arrange for employees to go out collecting for the Irish Cancer Society. Why do I do it? Simple... Cancer affects each one of us in some way either directly or through losing loved one - my fiancé's family have lost so many to cancer, most recently last year my lovely sister-in-law, Michelle, after a long illness. And despite all the preventive measures these days, you never know when it will strike.”
“This year just weeks before Daffodil Day, I lost my beautiful mam to a rapid onset cancer that took her within weeks of her showing symptoms. So, we can't stop... we can't stop fighting back, we can't stop trying to prevent, we can't stop trying to protect the future of those we love - and being a unicorn for the day is the least I can do for those that would have done anything to hug their kids and grandkids just one more time.”
