Self-funded

"Self-funded" means you personally cover the cost of your trek and directly pay the operator, and you fundraise for the Irish Cancer Society separately. All fundraising will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society - we would be delighted with any donation.

Just sign up with the operator and let us know when you do. After this we can get you your fundraising materials sent out!

    Mixed-funded

"Mixed-funded" means you will fundraise to cover the cost of your trek. We require a minimum donation of €2,500 on top of the trek cost from mixed-funded trekkers.

To sign up, you pay an initial deposit to the operator to secure your place (€399), then you pay the remaining amount to the trek supplier within their agreed time period before departure, while also fundraising a minimum €2,500 for the Irish Cancer Society.

Please note - you will have a direct relationship with the operator regarding payments for your trek. The Irish Cancer Society will not be able to transfer funds to the operator.

With this method we ask that you be transparent to supporters that some of their donations will go to the cost of the trek.

    Frequently asked questions

What do I have to do to take part?

Register with Earth’s Edge or another trek supplier and then contact Georgina at gganly@irishcancer.ie to confirm your registration. We will then send you out your fundraising materials to get you started!

How fit do I need to be?

Treks require a good level of fitness to walk the routes. Although some of the days can be fairly short, the trekking can be demanding, with very steep and uneven steps in some places. You will want to have a training schedule to prepare for the trek.

How much will I need to fundraise?

The minimum fundraising amount depends on what funding option you choose. If you choose Mixed-funding you will be required to fundraise a minimum amount of €2,500 for the Irish Cancer Society. If you self-fund the trek, you set your own target. Our fundraising team will be on hand to offer advice and support with your fundraising. If you have any query relating to your fundraising target, do not hesitate to contact the team.

What's included in the trek package and are there any medical requirments?

Your trek package and medical requirements are dependent on your chosen trek supplier. The Irish Cancer Society does not coordinate the trek but we are here to help with any aspect of fundraising!

How does the Irish Cancer Society benefit from my trip?

We use the donations you raise to fund cancer research and patient support services in line with our mission to ensure fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes. Cancer research is crucial to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of these cancers.

How can I find out more?

Contact Georgina at gganly@irishcancer.ie or fill out a form and we will be in touch!

Rebecca trekked Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society in memory of her friend who passed away from leukemia:

“He was the poster boy for getting out there and living life, ticking off bucket lists and seizing all that this world has to offer. So in his honour we began our adventure.

"The richness in diversity was seen not only in the landscape, from rain forests, monkeys and exotic birds on day 1 to freezing cold sub-zero temperatures on our last day, but also in the people and conversations. Beyond the beautiful views, the physical challenge and the sense of achievement, the most memorable and cherished part of the trip was three meals everyday with no phones, talking, laughing (crying) and getting back to what really matters - real authentic connection."
