Referral

Hi there,
My GP found a lump and tissue thickening and referred me urgently for a triple breast check. She said I would be seen within 2 - 3 weeks. It has been 2 weeks and I just got an appointment letter dated for October. I am nearly 50. Should I contact the clinic, wait it out or go privately although I don’t know how much that would cost.

Thank you G.

Hi pleasehelpGA

Sorry to hear that you might have breast cancer. If I were you I would get in contact with the breast clinic and ask them if you could take the first available cancellation as October seems a long time to have to wait for an urgent appointment. Failing that get back on to your GP and see if they can get you an earlier appointment.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment when you have it.

Best wishes

Hi pleasehelpGA,

Thank you for your post.

I am sorry to read that your GP found a lump and tissue thickening recently. I do hope that you get an appointment to have this reviewed soon.

As suggested by Jenni53 already, it would be good to contact the hospital and ask about the delay with the appointment. I would also advise that you contact your GP and let them know about the delay with the appointment. Your GP may link in with the hospital or refer you to another clinic.

If you would like to speak with one of our nurses in more detail, please contact the Support Line on 1800 200 700, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse

Hi g, I was in a similar situation last December. I was told by my doctor that I was being referred to breast clinic as non urgent it would be 2 to 6 wks wait. So after 2 wks of hearing nothing I rang the breast clinic myself and asked for an appointment ASAP. I got one I think 2 days later. It's always good to advocate for yourself. It's your body and your life. I hope all goes well for you X
