Surgery results, Galway
Hi,
I had surgery on the 17 Sep to remove either a fibrodenoma, or a phyllodes tumour from. My breast in Galway.
I know the consultants meet every Thurs to discuss cases. I'm expecting an update today.
Does anyone know if you always get a phone call, or do you sometimes just get a letter with your results?
Should I ring them if I don't hear from them today?
Thanks
Hi MarieM,
Thanks for replying.
5 weeks! The thoughts of having to wait that long for results! I hope you aren't kept waiting that long for you current results.
I'm going to wait till lunch time today, and then I'll ring them.
Best wishes to you too!
Dear SJ80.
Thank you for commenting on our online forum. I hope that you are feeling well after your surgery.
Once your surgery has been completed, it may take 10-15 working days to process your tissue sample in the lab. Your surgical team will not be able to discuss your results at the multi-disciplinary team meeting until this has happened. Therefore, you may not get your results for 3-4 weeks post your procedure. Your team may also organise a post-operative wound review, at which time they may discuss your results. The 8 symptomatic breast clinics may differ slightly in how they operate, so it is worth having a chat with your breast care nurse to see how you will receive your results and what follow-up you may require.
If you would like to speak to one of the nurses, please call our support line. The number is 1800 200 700, and we are here Monday-Friday from 0900-1700.
Kind regards,
Cancer Nurse
Hi SJ80,
Hope you’re feeling ok after surgery. I can only speak of my own experience so maybe others will offer different information. They do discuss cases every Thursday but only contact you once biopsy results are back. In my case it took 5 weeks (the sample went to Italy for diagnosis). It was a Friday morning when they called. I hope you hear from them tomorrow. Know you are not alone in the pain of waiting. It’s the absolute worst part. I am currently waiting on further biopsy results and contemplated bringing my phone into the shower this morning in case I missed the call! Don’t be shy in phoning for an update, it is your health and wellbeing.
Very best wishes to you x
