in hospital :-(

Ah you poor thing. It must be the day for lousy things happening I spent the day in the oncology ward with them looking for veins and it turns out that my bloods are too low for my radiotherapy to go ahead for at least the next few days. I'm in bad bad form !!

Oh you poor things. Did they know what caused the skin infections? Do you need to get bloods done for radiotherapy, excuse my ignorance. Oh I feel guilty that I'm feeling good today when I'm usually not

I feel for you I really do! It's so hard to stay positive when there always seems to be another shocker around every corner. Fingers crossed you'll be out before you know it! At least in hospital you can rest up and be taken care of, so try to relax a bit while you are stuck in there xxx

i noticed that my chest was a bit red this morn, and when i rang the clinic they wanted me in.
they admitted me and put me on an iv antibiotic i just hope everything is ol.

I didn't know until yesterday that bloods could be an issue with radiotherapy either. I am getting herceptin every 3 weeks so yesterday morning I went in as normal to the oncology ward for the herceptin and then the issue developed about my low "neutrophils". They went ahead with my herceptin as that does not effect your bloods but have decided to postpone the radiotherapy for at least a few days until my bloods improve. I'm back in tomorrow morning for bloods again so I'll see what that shows.
I had a couple of issues with low white cell counts during the chemo and had to be given blood at one stage but I really thought I was free of it all now. That's the thing about this journey you never know what's going to happen next.

Still here.
Plastics are taking no chances as I could loose the tissue expander. They're waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. Still hasn't happened. Good chance I'll be here for Xmas.

Oh neadie I'm so sorry you're still in hospital, but as they say its probably best place to be. My recovery has been so much quicker with the reduction in chemo. As Shirls says the journey can be long and varied and you just don't know what's around the corner, but we will all come out of it in the end. I've never had any bloods issue throughout my chemo I've been very lucky. I met a man I know who is having weekly chemo until Easter oh God I felt lucky after talking to him!!!

Hope you are doing ok. Xmas still a good few days off so don't worry about that yet. IV antibiotics usually kick in fairly fast. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

That's a real bummer. Fingers crossed the antiobiotics will kick in very quickly so you can get out for Christmas.
I'm on antiobiotics too as I had a high temperature last weekend - and they have worked very quickly - assume the IV ones will work even more quickly....

Going to light a candle in the church for you tomorrow that you'll get out for Christmas. I'm feeling really good and positive I see major light at he end of the tunnel and you will too. I even put my wig on today to meet a friend for lunch. Oh I do hope she reduces my chemo by 20% the next time.

Today they had to operate and I lost my tissue expander. I feel so so low now and not in the least bit chrissmassy......

They're hoping I get out on Xmas eve, but knowing my luck.... And I'm now not only flat chested on one side, but have another drain hanging out of me again....

Please tell me it gets better than this....

Oh Neadi, so sorry to hear you have lost the TE and you are still in hospital. Don't really know what to say to you other than it can't get much worse???

I was a uni-boober for 18 months and all I can say to you that it is doable. Once chemo was over I went on holidays and swimming with my kids and managed to do most normal things with the one boob. Shopping for low cut tops was about the only thing that I could not do but it dido not stop me from shopping!

Chin up if you can. I know you won't feel in the least bit festive but hopefully if you can get home you will begin to feel better.

Do you still have a skin infection where TE was?? I developed an awful infection post mastectomy and had an open wound for weeks and weeks. A public health Nurse recemmended I try some wheat grass juice as it has fantastic healing properties. It tastes absolutely awful but it made a massive difference to my wound and infection. Don't know where you would soured it now, maybe a health food shop or a juice bar. It needed to be the freshly juiced stuff (not the concentrate or dry leaves).

Poor, poor you. Thinking of you and hoping it all works out better at a later stage when the mastectomy site has settled down.

Really sorry to hear that Neadi....
I have a TE but have just had the one expansion so far - and will have to postpone any further expansions until after my radio therapy -so another few months away. In the meantime I'm getting used to having just the one boob - and I have to say it's not as bad as I had thought. The bras with the prosthesis are really good - I even got an almost sexy black one to go with my Christmas dress - and they are completely comfortable to wear....

Sorry that you will have another drain - they really are a pain - hope you wont have this one as long as the last time.....

Really hope that you can stil enjoy Christmas.

Thank you all so so much for the support. It turns out I reacted to the metal in the port of the expander. So better out than in eh?

Still here in Vincent's- they've now closed half the ward down for Xmas and the lack if Christmas atmosphere is astounding. I always thought Xmas in hospital would be a bit glittery??

Anyway a registrar came in today and said there is still a good chance I could go home on Monday, but after all that's happened.....

Moral of story- if you see a little redness get into hospital ASAP-I did but it wasn't enough to save expander. Will be flat now until at least this time next year.

Hopefully cancer won't take Xmas away from me, but hey there will be plenty more eh?

Oh I think I start chemo on January 10th. May see you in the hot seat then Dee!!!
