How many of us are young women???

Last reply: 13 April 2010 18:56

I met a lovely woman at the ARC center in eccles street yesterday.
It is a lovely place for people who have cancer to go to.
They have relaxation classes, councelling, thi chi, and lots of other stuff going on.

It is also a drop in center, where you can go and have a cuppa. They have a fabulous garden aswell.

Now im getting to my point...lol

There is a meeting there on the 12th of April at 10.15 for young women with breast cancer. Its for anyone up to 45 ish (maybe a bit older Image removed. )
I think they have it 4 times a year, im so glad i heard about it!!!!

I definately want to go, and celine from here said she would be intrested.
It would be a great way for us to meet up!

So is there anyone else up for it?????

Hi Hugs,

Thank you for the info. I would welcome the chance to meet some women my age group. If I can get off work I would love to be there. I finished my main treatments last year and am back at work on part time basis but have further reconstruction surgery to come later in the year.

Cheers

Hi Hugs,

I'm doing ok thanks. It is good to be back at work and have some sort of routine. On the other hand it is difficult as i am still recovering from the after effects of chemo & radiotherapy. It will be lovely to meet you & others & share our experiences.

Look forward to meeting you!

Hi Hugs

That's a great idea! I would love to meet up I am in that age group (41) but I can't make it that day.Such a pity!I really would have loved to. Hope they do get a few people there...nothing like meeting and talking to women just like ourselves.

Hi All,

It's lovely to see so many of you online with good humour and words of wisdom getting through the dreaded cancer journey. I wish I had known about this forum when I was having treatment. Nothing beats advice from people who are experiencing the same treatment. I don't post messages to you all as I'm a bit jaded with work now but getting back to some sort of normality after treatments. I look forward to catching up on April 12th with those of you able to attend the ARC. I wish you all well going through the treatments and hope you maintain the ability to keep laughing through it all!

Hi All,

The meeting was great! The Arc is a lovely place and the breast nurse counsellor is fab. It was wonderful to meet women doing so well inspite of everything thrown at them. So interesting to share our stories and experiences and have some laughs.

I look forward to the next one. I didn't want to leave. Could have stayed in that comfortable sitting room chatting and drinking tea all day Image removed.

Thanks a lot Hugs for posting the info on here and was lovely to meet you in person.

Summerbreeze the next one is on the 10th of may. They are going to have them on the second monday of every month! Hopefully you can make the next one.

It was great to meet you aswell avalanche, its nice to put a face to the name! Also michel, it was great to meet you too.

It was so relaxing and inviting. I had a few teary moments later which confused me, but i think it was just me letting it out. I have been bottling it in I think.

Im going to look into some of the regular relaxation classes on in the mornings. They are just 'walk in', so you can go whenever its on and dont need an appointment.

Hi Hugs,

You are entitled to a few tears now & then. Can't be permanently chirpy. The relaxation classes sound just the trick and great to have the Arc close to the hospital. Hope none of us scared you talking about treatments you have not had yet. Always sounds worse talking about it after. It goes by in a blur. You will be fine once you get a treatment plan and able to focus on that. The waiting game is the hardest part.

Hi to anyone else I met today who posts on here, not sure who else I met that chats on here Image removed.

It was great hearing about the treatments. Im really not afraid of them now. It was great meeting people who were finished or close to finishing treatment. Hey you all looked normal...no extra fingers or ears Image removed.

I must say that the hair today was lovely, you couldnt tell the wigs from the real stuff!!!!!

Ya once you start chemo you will find it interesting trying to suss whose hair is real. Amazing wigs!

The good thing about chemo is you are tied to a comfy chair for hours, don't feel ill when you are receiving it and have no choice but to relax/read/chat/listen to music. With your busy household you might enjoy the peace Image removed.

In a strange way I enjoyed my chemo sessions and found relaxing and the steroids you are given for a few days give you a real boost making you feel invincible Image removed.

Right must make my way to bed now & turn off this computer.

Sleep well

Hi Michl,

It was nice to meet you. Shame you can't make next time. Hopefully see you following one. I think you were having some tests and some decisions to make depending on results. Be happy to chat about next time if can help. Don't want to go into detail here so as to protect you privacy Image removed.
