Hi Girls

Am a lurker here and post infrequently however I did use this board a little when I was first diagnosed in Dec08.

I met (virtually and in real life) two wonderful ladies soon after my diagnosis - we were all being treated in Beaumont.

One girl, Linda (she used Linda on this board) had been diagnosed in 2006 but reoccured in Nov 2008 in the nodes and shortly afterwards was diagnosed with lung mets. I kept in intermittant contact with her during my treatment but realised yesterday that I had not heard from her in months. I decided to google her full name and a sport I knew she was passionate about. What popped up in the results shocked me. It was a reference to a memorial service from the sports club she was a member of. She had passed last Dec 2009. She would have been about 36.

I cannot believe she is gone and I am so sad for her husband and family. When I met her in real life she gave be some head scarves and other stuff to help me on my chemo journey.

I guess we all have to live and enjoy life and hug those close to us even tighter today!

Ah Lindylu,
Its not easy to be faced with news like that.
I guess the stats are there that not everyone ''makes it'' but we all wish
that ourselves and our friends are the positive percentages of the
stats.
A doctor said to me on one of our chats when I was very upset about a friend of mine who sadly passed away ......... you have to understand that your BC is unique..... people don't ''compare'' heart attacks and he told me never to compare BC.

It is hard and it does put a stone in your heart when you
see news like this - but as you said ........... just hug everyone a little tighter and enjoy the people and life around you - its not easy - be extra nice to yourself this weekend lindylu - take care, r

Hi lindylu. I honestly dont know what to say to you, it is heartbreaking when you hear news like that.
It terrifies me when I hear about people not pulling through, especially when they are young. As roxann said, be kind to yourself.

Hi LindyLu,

Very sorry to hear that your friend passed on. When we lose someone we knew personally, it can be a very harsh reminder of how dangerous BC can be. I too, lost a friend I made during RT in St. Luke's and, as well as making me very sad, it made me feel very vulnerable.

I think you are right to hug those you love closer and appreciate life more. But also keep reminding yourself that, thesedays, sad cases like your friend Linda are in the minority. And its not going to happen to you.

Hugs,
Flo.
