long road to reconstruction
Hi Ladies, just an update on where I am at.
Had my first appointment in Beaumont with plastic surgeon today, having been referred from Limerick for a Diep recon. He was an absolute gentleman unfortunately I didn't get on a waiting list yet as I need to see a breast surgeon too, because I want the other side removed (This should have been in the referral). I want the other side removed because it is at risk of cancer due to radioactive iodine I had for thyroid disease 7 years ago (there are medical studies which show this) and I don't want to be sitting waiting for another cancer to appear if I can prevent it now.
I don't know how long it will take to see the breast surgeon, but the good news is that if he agrees to the procedure I will go on his list, which is shorter than the plastic surgeons, and I still get the same plastic surgeon to do the recon!
keep your fingers crossed for me, I feel I have waited long enough already as my referral from Limerick was delayed several months because my surgeon was on maternity leave.

Best of luck hope you get to the top of the list ASAP - great something is moving and shocking that you waited so long as someone was on maternity leave.......
I Met with plastic surgeon last week and am going for tissue expander and see how it goes before RT if it doesnt go well will go for the Tummy one (the DIEP something or other! )

delighted for you, he's worth waiting for, he did mine last Oct & I haven't looked back, it's the best thing I've done. Think you're right to get the other side sorted first, in the long term this will give you so much peace of mind. Give me a shout when your getting surgery & I'll give you any info I have.
