My story and a question
Hi everyone
Very glad I found this forum. I have been reading posts since January but have only plucked up courage to post now.I found a lump end November went to Gp mid December who referred me urgently to breast clinic. Went there on 9th January had triple assessment and was told by consultant that it was likely to be cancer,had mastectomy and axilliary clearance on 7th February which I am recovering well from.
There was three tumours in breast which were aggressive but surgeon has said he got all he could see. I have appointment with oncologist next Tuesday I have question for all the ladies who have been on this road is it likely that treatment will start next week?
I was thinking of going away for a night with my husband and children(6 and 4) either this weekend or next.? Thanks

Welcome to our club - hope you will find the posts here helpful.
I had a six week gap between my surgery (also mastectomy & axillary clearance) and the start of my chemo treatment. I think they generally try to give you some time to recover from the surgery - so I would say definitely make the most of the time and try to get those few days away with your family.

I started chemo 8 weeks after surgery, but then again Xmas got in the way... Generally it's 6 weeks

I too had a 6 week recovery after surgery before they started Chemo - but I did see the oncologist sooner than that so I could meet the team and ask any questions about the treatment. I was also advised to go and see a dentist for a check up before starting chemo as you cannot have dental treatment during chemo because of risk of infection!

Welcome to the forum, you're in a good place, the women on here are amazing and helped me greatly.
I had chemo first and then lumpectomy but I can't start rads until six weeks after the op, so I'm due to start that on the 19th March. Think about six weeks is right for the healing process to have done its business. You enjoy, they're fairly flexible anyway if you said you had a night away booked they are good for working around things. They do like you to have as normal a life as possible around all this treatment.
Thanks girls. Decided to book a night away with husband and kids. Going to the ritz Carlton for one night thanks for your replies it's so nice to know there is help and support out there . Reading all your posts have stopped me panicking over the last five weeks.

Hi Shivers great to see you post here. Glad you booked it sometime pleasure has to come before cancer - wow I'd say that would be a fab break for you. Glad to hear things have gone good for you so far.
Looking forward to talking to you more and enjoy the break!! and as My Mother would say "no momentos" (for the moment anyhow!!)
Good for you, we so deserve treats so don't forget to treat yourself even during treatment it's so important.
Hi shivers. We had a mimi holiday/weekend booked before the b.c and the chemo. Told them I was going no matter what happened. the doctor and nurses were so nice and worked my chemo around it. Had a great time and was so glad I went.I had my first chemo over me but dont think I would have been able for the trip after the second chemo. Enjoy your time away.

Welcome to our little group of people. I am delighted that you booked a night away, as all the other ladies have said it is really important that you have some nice things to look forward to so at least you can feel you are actually having a life and that time has not stood still. I can only echo what everyone else has said, hospital staff are great at working with you throughout your treatment so I dont think you have any problems booking a night away. What a swanky place to go to. You so deserve it

We've just booked a week in lanzarote and the doctors couldn't have been more flexible. As I have a herceptin day as well I'm a bit confined to dates so he more or less said you tell me when you'd like to start as we have up to 12 weeks after operation to start. Even asked was I going for one or two weeks!!! Even in rads they said they can be flexible as we are going away to Galway in April for the weekend and she said we can book you in early that Friday. As you can see I'm starting to live life again and have been starved if holidays since September so I intend to make up for it and you'll find yourself saying quite a lot "I think I deserve that" and YOU DO

sorry to have to welcome you here, but welcome you are. We are all different, I was diagnosed on a Fri & was on chemo the following Thurs, was rushed thru as my cancer was so aggressive. Would recommend you ring your Breast Care nurse of if you haven't got one ring one of the contacts you have on the surgical team. A night away would be well worth it before you start down the chemo road.
