Last reply: 20 February 2015 18:16

Hi there
Just looking for advice on people's past experiences
I'm 34 had right Dcis in 2010 had partial mastectomy and radiotherapy
Now changes found on mri on left.
Bx found benign change but due to my history and family hx a bilateral mastectomy with lat dorsi flap with implant reconstruction
Awaiting on my date
I'm wondering do people get any sensation back
Are you happy with the reconstruction
How long before you could get back to work.
I do not have children yet and have been strongly advised to do surgery before I have children due to high risk.
I appreciate your feedback
Regards
J

Hi J
I had that reconstruction on one side; surgery went fantastic and it looked brilliant. Unfortunately I had encapsulation around my inplant and had to have it replaced but to be fair, that was no big deal, but it meant I was out of action again.
I don't have as much strength in my surgical side as I have on my other side and it's stiff and sore if I don't exercise it.
I have no feeling around my breast, part of my back, and under my arm but it doesn't cause a problem. My nipple was spared so to look at it with clothes on I still have a great shape, though when in the nip it looks smaller and lumpier than my other breast, but I can live with it. I was given a prosthesis to wear to balance out my breasts when I only use if I'm wearing a t-shirt or something tight fitting. I suppose I was expecting a more natural look & feel, as in it would be identical to my other one; between putting on weight and the second surgery, that isn't the case. To lie on my belly, it feels like there is a squishy tennis ball in my breast but I think that is more to do with they way the implant has to be insterted second time around.
It works for me, I'm glad I did it but then I suppose I don't know any differently so can't compare it to any other surgeries.
Take care & hope everything goes well for you
