Relaxation / Mindfulness

Last reply: 01 April 2013 15:01

[color=#8000BF:1reexmmb]This is something I have been very reluctant to try during my chemotherapy. I suppose I was a wreck in my head with the cancer diagnosis, surgery and then chemotherapy. The last thing I wanted to do was relax in a quiet way and be in the present moment!

However, with the help of counselling I'm in a better place in my head and promised myself I would at least try the relaxation and mindfulness that was on offer in my local cancer support centre. Low and behold I'm converted. Now my only regret is that I didn't start sooner. It has really changed my life. I now practice this at home too and find it great to take time out during the day if I can to just be in the moment.

So anyone who is thinking about trying this but not sure my advise would be to try. The worst that will happen is its not for you, the best is that it will be something that will help you to cope with things that life throws at you.

Hi Sunshine,

Thank you so much for this link and I so glad for you that you found this helpful. I wonder why we tend to put up so much resistance to what we ultimately find perfect for us? Definitely going to follow up on this.

[color=#4000BF:14bmttgz]Great ladies..... Image removed. Be strong and most importantly take up the offer of what is out there. I'm still going and in fact I really look forward to it now....its a time during the week that's just for me. In fact I've even taken to prolonging the day and doing other 'nice' things after my relaxation and mindfulness sessions. Feeling much much better as a result. My family are looking at me a little strangely as I'm having so much nice time just for me now....but I have to be a little selfish and no-one has suffered as a result...they all get on fine and are learning to cook so much better Image removed. Good for you, we are important and it's taken cancer to show us we are. We've got a second chance grab it by the neck and enjoy.

Delighted to hear that the relaxation / mindfulness is working for you. I tried while I was still on chemo but it was probably not the best time as I found I couldn't shut off my mind to allow it to work. Based on what you've said though I'm gonna try again - I owe it to myself. Thanks all, x
