Newly diagnosed- kidney cancer
Hi there, I'm a 37 year old mum of three recently diagnosed with cancer of the kidney 11 weeks ago. I am recovering from a right radical nephrectomy and have started treatment... Sutent. Just wondering if anyone out there has been through similar????
Hi Tayto02. I have recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer and due for partial nephrectomy in a few weeks. As they are trying to save some of the kidney I am going for open surgery so longer recovery time but obviously better in long term. Just wondering how you are now? What is the treatment you referenced in your post? What kind of sugery did you have, key hole or open? What was your recovery like? How long before you felt able to go back to work. Sorry for all the questions just finding it hard to find much information or anyone who has that this surgery before. Anyway hope you are o.k. p.s also a 37 year old mum of 2 kids so your post scarily similar!!!
Hi Tayto2,
I am not going to be of much help to you I'm sure, but my father had a kidney removed this time last year so I feel I can relate to you in some way. To be honest, I know nothing much about my father's situation, as he and my mother took his diagnosis and surgery on themselves. They did not welcome any intervention from us (their children) I am 42! He is the type who doesn't want to know the facts. He prefers to remain in denial. He is due his first follow up scan next week, almost one year later. There was never a mention of treatment for him. I can only hope and assume his care team are on top of things... All I know is that he had a tumour on his kidney and the plan was to remove the kidney and follow up with a scan at a later date ...
I just wanted to message you so you would know, that in reading your post, people are thinking of you and wishing you well. I think, just because people don't actually reply to posts here, it doesn't mean they are not interested in your story. It more likely means that actual kidney cancer patients are not reading your posts. All cancers and their treatments are different. What we have in common is the emotional stuff. I have advanced melanoma myself and it is very rare that the melanoma page here is active.
I hope, in time, that you get the support you are looking for. It is not easy to feel alone on this journey. Keep looking. There may be other forums good forums out there.
I wish you well,
Anne
