48y.old new to the forum
Hi there, I've been reading the messages here for a couple of days and am beginning to feel like the grandmother here! I was told that at 48 I'm young to have bc. but everyone I've read about is in their twenties and thirties and I really feel for you. I had a mastectomy in February and am currently having chemo to be followed by radio therapy. Doing well so far but second chemo felt worse than first and I wonder does it get worse as it progresses. My hair fell out in clumps after first session and I feel like my taste buds are changing so much now. I'm in fairly positive mode about this but surprised myself by having one really bad day last week where I woke up in terrible mood and snapped the head off everyone for the entire day. Is this the start of the dreaded menopause and how quickly does it kick in when having chemo? Just looking for a few guidelines, I know every treatment is different but I'd hate to turn into that person I was for one day as I'm a pretty easy going 'girl'.
Hi Kasandra
I've twice submitted replies to you and still do not seem to have succeeded.
I'll make this one short. Just to thank you for your support and to say that things are going really well now I've finished the AC and have two more Taxol treatments to go and then radiotherapy, but am feeling great. I hadn't logged on to the forum for weeks and then last week tried to reply to you, but as I said, unsuccessfully, although I've managed to reply to another thread.
Anyway, you've now finished your treatment and I admire you having had to deal with secondaries and still sounding positive. I really hope things work out for you and that you enjoy the good health you so deserve for the future.
Keep well

Hi Egghead,
Glad to hear you are making it through chemo ok and have not TOO long to go now. I hope the moodiness you experienced was just a once off thing from tiredness and chemo side effects and not a menopausal thing. Has it ever occurred since?
I also found my second AC to be pretty bad and was then worried 3 and 4 would be even worse. But thankfully, they went fine and the 4 Taxols were ok. I remember counting down to the last infusion and feeling like having a party once the final one was in - not the usual way to feel after an infusion!!:-)
Take care,
Flo.
PS - I think that sometimes our replies fail here because we take too long typing them and the session times out. If you have a long message to put in, try typing it up in MS Word or something first and then when you are finished, just copy it all, click reply on here and paste it in.
Hi Flo,
Nice to hear from you. Only 17 days to go and I'm liking your idea of a party at the end of the Taxol!!
I've actually managed to remain very positive and happy throughout the whole treatment and cannot believe how quickly it's all gone by. Still a bit to go with the radiotherapy to get through but Summertime seems to make everything seem less dark in every way.
Thanks for the advice on posting a reply, hopefully this works
All the best

hi, eghead,
kasandra here i was diagnosed with bc im nov last year and also have secondary on bone, i am just finishing my chemo tomorrow, you do not say what chemo you are on my first lot was ac, and it does effect the stomach, i found it was really a balancing act as to what to eat but the anti sickness drugs really helped, i used emend motillium and steroids for five days and they definetly helped. if you are feeling unwell talk to your chemo nurse as well as your consultant, i found them really good and as they said to me you dont have to be unwell. as for the taste buds unfortunately they do go a bit astray.
the good news is that my second chemo treatment taxol did not make me sick at all
the only side effect i had from it was some pain in my feet and hands but two panadol and this was fine.
hope i have been of some help
keep in touch
kasandra
