After treatment follow up

Last reply: 24 June 2020 17:00

Hi,
I had a lumpectomy in Dec 19, chemo Jan and radiation in April.i was really lucky my treatment progressed normally and uninterrupted by COVID 19.
The follow up now though is to be seen in June by Radiotherapist, then July by Oncologist and finally next Dec by Breast Surgeon (12 months later) .
What is the usual policy for post treatment follow up and also wondering as people ask me : am I going for scans and I’ve no appointment as such bar above. Also some survivors have had PET and CT scans, is this usual in most hospitals ? Otherwise I’m recovering very well, hair and energy is starting to improve.
Thanks Ladies,
P.

Hi

I am glad to hear you are recovering well and we wish you the very best.

The usual policy post treatment would be for a clinical examination and discussion about how you are. Scans or blood tests are not usually needed. Also PET-CT is not routinely recommended. The only test you need  routinely is a mammogram every year.

Regarding your June and July appointments I would suggest you ring the breast care nurse in your hospital to see what their current arrangements are. They may arrange a video consultation due to COVID but if you have any symptoms you are unsure about or concerns around the area where you had your radiotherapy do let her know.

I hope this has been helpful and you are always welcome to ring our Nurseline at 1800 200 700.

Kind regards
