Breast cancer reconstruction

Last reply: 26 November 2024 16:14

Hi, I’m due to get a single mastectomy and reconstruction at same time.
As a single girl, who wants to meet someone in the future, is very sporty, loves clothes, I am struggling massively with this prospect and the delay in getting symmetry in opposite breast (but of course am aware that i am very privileged to hopefully have caught it in time. Does anyone have any experience of this

Dear agatha.

Thank you for posting on our online community. I am sorry to read about your diagnosis of breast cancer and that you require a mastectomy. I am sure that this is a worrying time, and I do hope that you are getting the support you need.

I hope that you hear from other women who have had the same treatment as you, so that you can get the guidance you seek. In the meantime, you might consider using our Peer-to-Peer volunteer service. Peer Support is the Irish Cancer Society’s one-to-one support programme, providing emotional and practical support to newly diagnosed people. I have provided a link with more information here. We have a several supportive women who have had similar treatment who will be delighted to support you at this time.

Please do phone us on 1800 200 700 (Monday-Friday, 0900-1700) if you would like to speak with a cancer nurse for any support, advice, or a listening ear or if you would like to avail of our peer support programme.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse
