Finished treatment
Hi,
I'm just finished a year of treatment for breast cancer. After a tough road everything has gone very well and my oncologist said he is very happy with my response to treatment and seems quiet positive about going forward. I am of course very relieved and happy that my treatment has gone well, however I feel somewhat lost at sea. Its like the tsunami has hit and now I'm just in open water bobbing along, also the fear of it coming back is always there. Has anybody else felt like this following treatment and does time really help heal?
Thank you x
Hi Louisa
Thank you for posting on our online community. I am glad you have had a nice reply. It is indeed a very difficult time when treatment finishes. For many it is only after treatment finishes that a person gets time to reflect on what they have gone through.
There are a number of ways for getting support at this time. For example you could speak to one of our peer to peer trained volunteers who has been through breast cancer treatment a few years ago. You could also avail of our counselling service. I am not sure if you have been told about a programme we provide called ‘LACES’ . You will find more information on this and other services on our site under ’support’ but the important thing is not to feel alone. Do phone us as we would like to hear how you are and we can discuss the above with you.
Kind regards
Cancer Nurse
Easier said than done but try to put it to the back of your mind. It’s a waste of time worrying . Worrying is like rocking on a rocking chair. Takes up all your energy but gets you nowhere . Don’t let cancer rob your time and your head space. And, 90 percent of what we worry about never happens x
