Herceptin by Injection & Weekly v Three Weekly Administratio
Hi, And i thought herception was going to be straightforward ! Got two choices today from oncologist on herceptin that I didnt expect as I thought it was standard three weekly intervals by IV and interested to know what anyone elses experiences have been?. Have option of weekly administration rather than three weekly and and also can participate in a trial which administers it by injection which takes 3 - 5 minutes. It apparently does not impact on efficacy and they are reviewing the tolerability of injecting under skin in this manner.
I have looked at the research done but would love to know if anyone else is receiving herceptin by injection? ( or weekly)
Thanks LL
My chemo will be administered in Sligo but had my surgery and treatment to date in Galway. Sligo will save 4 hours travelling. I was told the three weekly is same in terms of effectiveness as weekly, which is what is important. I was thinking more about making it easier on the body with smaller doses more regularly? I think the original method of administration may have been weekly and it then progressed to three weekly intervals.
The injection method is being trialled in a number of centres worldwide which inlcudes a number of Irish hospitals. The intention dwon the road would be self administration or administration locally by GP or nurse, which makes sense. But for me at moment want as much tried and tested as possible !!
Believe you me herceptin is a 'walk in the park' compared to chemo so I wouldn't worry too much . I've no side effects from it and only takes an hour or so to administer
Have been offered the herceptin on the new clinical trial , a bit unsure what to do .Have read all the information and seems as effective but so much going on in my head at the moment not sure what to do , would love ti join it if it made it easier for people having it in the future .
Why is herceptin on a clinical trial don't understand. I'm having herceptin and its no bother and apparently my invasive ducal ceranoma would be quite aggressive only for herceptin
Sorry should have said that the herceptin is not on trial but just the way they give it to you , t
Oh sorry I read back. I think I'd try it and it'd be over quicker
Yes was thinking about doing it , has its advantages , you get longer follow up care and will see doctors at every app .I think what the hope to do eventually is that the patient will be able to administer it themselves , s bit like the insulin pen .The injection form is now been used in America and think it has past its 5 year clinical trial , but not that far in Europe so they cant give you a guarantee that it's as successful .Its a hard decision to make .I feel that I would like to do if it made this journey easier for the next person ,and that you are giving something back to the wonderful people that worked and tried the treatments at there early stages..I know that the have come so far in the treatments of this awful disease even in the last 10 year's , I lost my beautiful mother to it 12 years ago ,and I think if she was diagnosed now ,her story might have been different.
I was on it every three weeks and I think I'd be the same as you if presented with a choice. I have to say the weekly injection for only a few minutes sounds like a dream to me and if effacy wasn't compromised in doing so it doesn't sound as fearful.
I'm intrigued to see how it fares put overall - wouldn't it be a dream getting it from your GP!
Best of luck and good health
That's all new to me. Where are you attending? No I was getting it with chemo and it continues every three weeks for 11times after chemo finishes. I don't mind going in as I said before after chemo, everything is a doddle.
