Had my Mastectomy 3 weeks after chemo so this must be the norm. Honestly thought at the time that I wouldn't be able for it having had blood transfusions, infections etc for the last 3 chemos but I sailed it. Physically in comparison to Chemo surgery is a lot easier. Emotionally was a different story but thank God for plastic surgeons!!

When are you finished deefed? I'm in private hospital don't know if that makes a difference. My surgeon operates every two weeks so it would have been February if not 21st jan

Would you believe it's my day for herceptin and I can get that while I'm in there it doesn't interfere with surgery. I can't wait to be cancer free Image removed.

So happy you got your date. Mine was exactly three weeks after chemo as well. Chemo was definitely the most horrible permanently sick after surgery was easy! Don't forget button up pjs because mobility is restricted for a while.

Best of luck x

No Shirls haven't heard a thing about it. Do you think they'd let us go on holiday between op and starting radiotherapy . I could do with a break

Hi Wicklowlady,
I had my surgery (lumpectomy) before my chemo and then went from chemo to radiotherapy. I had 4 weeks between end of chemo and start of radio. I'd imagine you might have a little longer of a break as the radiotherapy will be directly around the surgery site so they will probably give it some time to heal. (I had 6 weeks after surgery before chemo started) You may do something nice on your time off Image removed.

Hi

Yes I had rads after they were supposed to start six weeks after surgery but that fell on Christmas week so I asked could I wait until after Christmas so it was eight weeks. I am sure once there are no complications there would be no problem with you going away. The time between surgery and rads was my first break from the hospital since my diagnosis. Be good for you to have something to look forward to x.

Yes that's what I was thinking a week away would be nice if they were agreeable. Just feel I've been consumed by the chemo and diagnosis for the past four months . I still have to go in for herceptin every three weeks so would have to work around that, and my lovely mother is 80 on 10th feb and I want to celebrate that. We had to cancel a 19 day med cruise that I was going on for my 50th when I got the bad news in august. So I think I deserve a holiday now. Image removed.

Hi

Just remember you will probably have some appointment prior to rads to be marked with tattoos for treatment mine were about four weeks after surgery so if your booking something keep that in mind! I completely forgot about those appointments.

Agree with Madge1, delegate all the hard bits!! I too recovered very quickly from surgery & took a short luxury hotel break down the country before starting chemo, didn't want to risk flying at the time but that was just me, had lymphs removed. Flying no problem now with compression sleeve. Best of luck.

Hi Wicklowlady,
I too had a lumpectomy, was a bit sore for about 2 weeks. I'm not sure if I would have been up to a "foreign holiday" maybe a mini break in Ireland. Just bear in mind your body has been through an awful lot during chemo and it takes times to recover. I'm only beginning to feel normal now 9 weeks after my last chemo. I was totally wrecked from the rollercoaster of the last 7 months, just constantly tired but my oncologist told me that it was perfectly normal and to listen to my body and give it the rest it needed to recover. Chemo brain seriously struck me when chemo was over, there were days I could not remember simple things and it really got to me just when I thought I should be getting back to "normal" but thankfully I'm beginning to come around now Image removed.

Thanks girls I'm kind of thinking that a luxury break down the country would be good and we have friends in London we could go to either. Oh my husband would be delighted to he's been absolutely brilliant he's done everything for me for past four months and I'd love him to get a break more than me. I'm finding its longer this time to get my energy and taste back but at least when they come back it'll be for good please God. Really appreciate the advice and ill save the foreign holiday until later in the year maybe, when I'm feeling better. I'd imagine it takes a long time for this poison to leave your body completely. I will be happy trotting off wherever with the lumpectomy over me though.
