LD flap reconstruction
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I am 40 year old Dublin lady. Married with two kids (8 & 9).
I was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer on the 13th Oct. I just have it in my left breast. I have had a unsuccessful lumpectomy. I agreed with the doc to have the masectomy if the lumpectomy did not remove enough and the margin was not good, which it was not.
The doc routinely does reconstruction surgery with the LD flap method in the same surgery as the masectomy. Has anoyone on here had the same done at te same time? I am trying to do some research before I meet back with doc on Thursday. Surgery is planned for the week after.
Never thought I would be dealing with this, no history in my family, no other symptoms except the (large) lump in my left breast. Chemo, radiation and hormone therapy are all planned too.
Thanks for reading.

Hi, I had a MX and LD flap recon with and expander implant 8 weeks ago. I was in hospital for 1 week but I had a complication as my lung collapsed. The first 2 days are the worst but very manageable. I had no real pain as that is taken care of and I was up and about in a couple of days. I had a build up of fluid in my back which had to drained off at my first checkup but after that I was fine. My recovery is going great, it's all healing up surprisingly quickly. I'm now going every 2 week for fills until I reach the size that I'm happy with. I will have the expander removed and replaced with a silicone implant after a 6 month period. Some ladies choose to keep theres in but I find it's quite hard and not a good shape. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions let me know. You will be fine, its amazing how our bodies recover. Best of luck!
