Mastectomy with reconstruction
Hi all, Sorry to meet you here.
I have been diagnosed with breast cancer, originally stage 2. I have not been updated on the current stage after MRI, but a new tumor has been found, and have been "kind of" recommended a mastectomy with reconstruction. I did not receive much support or information. Can someone who has gone through this give me some advice, please? Have you done a mastectomy with an implant reconstruction? Can you kindly share your experience? Thank you so much!
Hi Paola,
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and I hope you are doing OK.
I had a mastectomy with an immediate implant reconstruction. I thought it hugely helped me to come to terms with "losing the breast". I had to have my nipple removed too, but the implant under my own skin and veins actually looks quite good now that it has settled, even without a nipple. I obviously don't know what it's like to have a mastectomy without a reconstruction, but I didn't experience anything traumatic health wise from having an immediate reconstruction, that's for sure. As I said, it really helped me.
I hope things go well for you.
