Metastatic Breast Cancer
Hi Everyone. Wanted to share my story so far to see if anyone else is in the same position as me. I am 49 and in May was initially diagnosed with breast cancer. I was scheduled for surgery and after reporting a pain/lump in my neck got referred for a CT scan. The CT showed lesions in my liver so the unfortunate diagnosis of MBC came.
I was on Ibrance, zoladex and letrozole for two months. Due to high liver enzymes I've been taken off the Ibrance. I am waiting to see the oncologist to see what's next.
I went back to work and want to stay in work. I am finding the whole thing as nothing short of torture as it's on my mind 24/7. I was ok whilst I was on the treatment and I thought that everything was going well.
How is anyone else coping with the diagnosis of MBC?
Hi ‘Freesia71’
Thank you for posting on our online community. I am sorry you have not received a reply yet but hopefully you will hear from others soon. Meanwhile I just wanted to say how sorry I am to read of the distressing time you are going through. It must be such a shock for you to hear in May that you had breast cancer and soon after that it was metastatic.
If you would like to phone our support line and speak to a cancer nurse at 1800 200 700, we could put you in contact with one of our trained volunteers who also has metastatic breast cancer in our Peer to Peer support group see here. Some of the affiliated cancer support groups also arrange monthly meetings for those with secondary cancer. These are held currently online. If you would like to look into this here is the list of support groups or just phone us. We could also arrange counselling with one of our trained counsellors, if you would like.
I do hope you will tell your oncologist just how difficult it is for you and that he/she will arrange extra support through the hospital.
Take care
Cancer Nurse
