Neulasta

Last reply: 11 May 2011 09:48

I was given a Neulasta injection after my 2nd round of chemo and it's prescribed for the final 2 also. I found that it seemed to intensify the side effects and I was really unwell for a couple of days. Has anyone any help or advice on this please.

I am going for my first chemo tomorrow thursday and they have given me neulasta to take 24hrs after.
Have looked it up and everyone seem to get wicked pain from it,
I am not looking forward to it at all, it has even taken over from the thought of chemo at this stage.
Did u inject yourself... How did you find it....

Shirley

The injection itself is fine - I barely felt a thing as it goes into the fatty part of your stomach. The nurse can do it for you or show you how to do it yourself. I did inject myself while she was there and I expect to do it for the next 2 by myself.

The best of luck with your treatment and when the side effects lift after a couple of days you'll be in good form again.

Hi

Im new to this boards page, but I am due my 4th cycle of chemo tomorrow, I too was perscribed neulasta and on my first cycle the side effects were horrendous, the pain in my neck and bones and general misery was awful. I ask the oncologist about it and was recommended using nurofen plus and diazapem as it is a muscle relaxant. I armed myself with these drugs and on the day I took the neulasta I took
nurofen plus, the day after the pain was a little more severe so took some diazapem and I have to say it has made a huge difference. Ask the doc what they can recommend for you, as every person is different and every regimen of chemo is different, I am on TC and Lapatanib for HER2 + BC and am having chemo prior to surgery. The docs will always give you something for side effects so take it, its difficult enough dealing with the cancer without having to suffer side effects needlessly! Chin up, I cant believe im on my forth cycle already so there is light at the end of the tunnel Image removed.

Butterfly, hope you're going well.

Well had very little side effects from injection , Image removed.
Is there much differance from first cycle to second or do each one differ.

That's great Butterfly. It seems everyone has different reactions and it's hard to tell how it goes. At least you have an idea what to expect. I've armed myself with lots of pills including sleeping tablets for next weeks event!! All the best.

Well, had my 2nd Neulasta injection yesterday and so far so good. As yet it's nothing as bad as the 1st one! I took Neurofen plus beforehand and regularly since. I've been following the forum on breastcancer.org and lots of them take Clarityn the day before, the day of the injection and the day after. I checked with the oncology unit and they said to try it (as lots of people take anti histamines for various allergies). So whether that coupled with the Neurofen plus is doing the job...we'll see!
