Pain

Last reply: 02 March 2022 17:28

Hi, I am 46 and was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Last Tuesday I had surgery to remove a 2 little tumours and a big cyst. They also took a sample from the lymph nodes. The breast seems to be healing well, but I find it hard to cope with the pain in the armpit. The area is still numb and swollen. The pain is going into the shoulder and sometimes down the arm. The painkillers don't do much to relieve the pain. And I am only able to sleep about 4-5 hrs before I wake up again.
Any advice?

Hello, just sharing my experience in similar diagnosis. I was advised by the nurse to keep taking the painkillers. You may need to up the dosage. I was on 400ml ibruphen 3 times a day and 2 paracetamol 3 times a day.
After operation number 2, I was on 200ml ibruphen and 2 paracetamol 3 times a day. My GP advised me to stop paracetamol and take solvadeine instead.
I did the exercises and also tried acupuncture.
That’s just for comparison of my pain killers.

Hi, I am on targin and paracetamol. But they only gave me a couple of the targin. Think I'll ask gp for something else. Doing the exercises a couple times a day.
Ya I saw your post. Sorry that you have to get chemo. I am hoping I'll get my biopsy results next Thursday. Hope I won't need a 2nd operation. When will you start your chemo?

Hi, Chemo starts Feb 28. Keep the exercises going - a little, gently and often. Fingers crossed you won’t go back for a second op

Im 8 days post surgery and also feeling the pain more in arm and shoulder area. Only taking paracetemol and ibuprofen which is not giving much relief. Ive been advised to use heat and massage. Hard to massage back of arm myself. Results on 16th. So far its going to be RT and hormone treatment so hopefully it will stay like that. Hope you have managed to relieve the pain. Take care C
