Pain in shoulder after lumpectomy .

Last reply: 21 October 2015 11:50

I had a lumpectomy at the end of July. The last 2 days my shoulders are
Quiet sore. I rang the breast nurse and she thinks I have just done to much and the shoulders muscles are sore. I rested yesterday evening and did very little all morning and the shoulder is sore again. Don't have any swelling.
Anyone have this.

I had lumpectomy in January and I notice in the last month that when I stretch my arm its very tight and sore. Surgeon said that's normal . It only bothers me when I stretch my arm. I get a pain in my shoulder but had that before any breast cancer

I had lumpectomy in late June, and did all the exercises recommended by the physio for over a month. Arm was perfect, very comfortable, not tight. Of late, I tried returning to light weights in the gym, and had to promptly give up due to twinges under my arm (rather than shoulder). Clearly in my case, I was trying to do too much too soon - so maybe the breast nurse is right (they do tend to know their onions!!). It might also be worth your while having a chat with the physio? I was advised, if my arm got tight during RT, before or after, to restart doing the physio exercises.

I never got Physio or was recommended it after surgery!!! I had no glands removed. It's tight now though

Superwhy, I think this is quite common post surgery as everything just needs time to repair. I had mastectomy in February but still get twinges in shoulder/arm quite a bit depending on how much activity I am doing or if I don't do my exercises. I was advised by physio to keep doing exercises a couple of times a week, (after doing them twice daily for 8 weeks after surgery) and it definitely helps.
Not sure when there will be a complete "normal" feeling but I plan to keep at exercises for another while anyway.
Best Wishes Leitrim Lady

I had a lumpectomy and a few glands removed in June 2012. Despite doing all the exercises I was asked to do I still get twinges under my arm and feel a pull and a tightness when I try to stretch out my arm.
