Hi there I'm due to have a mastectomy on 25 still coming to terms with it. My question is about the tamoxifen if you remove the ovaries would you still have to take it?

Dear Win,

Thank you for your post I’m sorry that you have not heard from any members of our online community. Hopefully you will hear from others soon.

I would suggest that you call us on the Cancer Nurseline and we may be able to answer your query more clearly on telephone 1800 200 700 through a discussion.

You could also discuss this with your medical team who will give you further guidance as the treatment for breast cancer is very individual. Having the ovaries removed may have a similar effect to tamoxifen but it may not entirely negate the need for hormone therapy and your consultant is better placed at discussing this in relation to your own circumstances.

I hope that this is helpful to you and hope that you have an uneventful recovery after your mastectomy.

Regards
Cancer Nurse

Hi Win.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
Lots of bad press about tamoxifen. ...I was on it for 10 years without any side affects.
Try not to worry about it.
