SOFT Trial - early results
Ladies,
Some of you might have seen on my siggy that I am a participant in a trial - the SOFT trial - supression of ovarian function.
Results of the trial were presented at ASCO during the week:-

I happened to be randonised into the one that had the best results
Worth having a chat about it with your onc Mamato3. Perhaps print out the information on the links I sent....it is very recent news and your onc may not be up to speed on the presentation of the findings.
There are downsides to Ovarian Supression in that you are thrown into menopause but chemo would probably have done that to you if you had it.
Keep us posted on your discussion with our onc.
Hi Lindylu,
Thanks for posting this thread and delighted to hear you r in best result category.
Was really interested to read results of trial from ASCO. My onc has suggested putting me on Zoladex as well as Tamoxifen .Started d Tamoxifen a month ago.I am back to see Onc on Thursday and had read up loads of research that stated the 2 together were no more effective than Tamoxifen alone to prevent reoccurance. So I had made up my mind to just stick with the Tamoxifen alone, so far no side effects but early days I know. The thought of monthly injections and the very rapid menopause weren't doing much for me.I did not need chemo thankfully just rads so was surprised that they are suggesting I need the ovarian suppression also.My onco score was only about 12, however now reading the latest findings it seems Tamoxifen and Zoladex are not the way to go either. So much information to sort through isn't there. Regards Happymum.
Hi LindyLu,
Thanks for your post on the SOFT trial. This is very interesting and when I see my oncologist in July, I will definitely discuss this with her. I've been taking Tamoxifen since February 2013. During my last visit in January, I asked about the Zoladex injections along with Tamoxifen but she could see no benefit for me.
Good on you LindyLu for still posting and replying to other posts on the message board.

Interesting trial Lindylu, thanks for posting. I will shortly be starting tamoxifen but don't know anything about suppressing ovarian function and it's not something my oncologist has discussed with me. I will definitely be asking her about it when I next see her. It's great to see research being done and new treatments coming on line, thanks to ladies like yourself who participate in these trials.
