St. Luke's lodge
Hi all
Just wondering if anyone stayed in the lodge in st Luke's?
It's being offered to me as I have to travel a long distance everyday for radiotherapy which is starting tomorrow in st. james hosp.
On one hand, I'd like to save myself the hassle of travelling and conserve some energy but on the other hand I'm worried about being away from the kids. I'm also thinking would it make the days very long and lonely.
Has anyone stayed there? Any thoughts?
I do know of my friends father who stayed in them during the week with no complaints and made many friends while staying there for six weeks.
Hi Dane
I'm going to try it for this week, I'm off there tomorrow. It would be great if you decided to come too!
Wicklow lady, thanks for reply, I'll let you know how it goes.

I had a friend who stayed there for a week as she was travelling up and down from Wexford. Will ask her if you like
Hi girls
Sorry was offline all week, no wifi there. Apologies wilmaone, didn't see your message until now that I'm home. Maybe next week? I'll pm you my mobile.
So the lodge is lovely and I met really nice people. It's like having this forum all day cos everyone has been there, done that in some way. But we don't hang around talking cancer all day, it's just the usual chat when a bunch of women get together. The men are great, think it must be really good for them to have each other to chat to which they don't really do normally, not like we women do.
The only negative was to do with myself. I really missed being at home and couldn't wait for time to pass to get home today.
Anyway, I discovered today there is Internet access there so I will be back on here more next week.

Hi Jo good to hear you got on well and even better that you now discovered wifi that would put me off as cant live without it
How many more treatments do you have there? How do you get offered a place there is for both public and private? I have a long way to go before \I do rads but will have to travel in daily from Kildare so wouldnt mind a few days in there
hope its going well for you x
Hi Deefed
Unfort not wifi but there is a computer available.
I heard about the lodge first from someone at work who stayed there last year. You can ask to be referred by the radiotherapy team. It's for public and private, same facilities for all. I don't know how they decide who gets in, maybe distance to travel and availability. There are a lot of people from Donegal there with me.
I have all the rest of this month to do, only 8 sessions over so far. But no side effects so far so that's good
Don't worry about it for now. It got organised in a few days for me.
Hope the chemo is going ok.

Anyone attending st Vincent's private hospital don't go to st Luke's as Vincent's private have their own radio therapy unit where Vincent's public don't and therefore you are referred to st Luke's.
Hi Wicklow lady
We might be on crossed wires here. I'm not getting treated in st. Luke's hospital, I'm just staying in st Luke's lodge. The people staying in it are getting treated in various hospitals around Dublin including st. Luke's hosp.
Jo
Oh very good. I'm lucky as I live pretty close
How r u getting on Jo with RT?
Staying at the Lodge or travelling up and down?
I have 3 weeks done and 2 to go. Did a Chemo yesterday truly exhausted. Another Chemo Xmas week and then who knows with this ever evolving plan.
Hope u r doing well.
Hi dane7
I'm hot on your heels with 14 RT done! I had a double session one day this week. I didn't like the idea of it at all but apparently it is often done. I've met someone who is on chemo at same time as RT, like you. It must be so hard for you, each one on its own is exhausting.
I'm feeling good so far, just I have noticed that I get suddenly tired. No skin problems so far. Lashing on aqueous cream as advised.
Roll on end of year so we can say good riddance to it!
Keep posting Dane.

Great to hear it is going well for you Jo!
Yep finishing line could be in sight for us both. I have a chemo on the 28th so that sneaks in before year end I guess. I am seeing oncology in January to see what else they have in mind so hoping, hoping and hoping some more that you and I will be kicking this shit year in to touch once and for all!!!!!
What did you decide Jo? No experience myself of the Lodge but very tired already travelling up and down for daily treatment myself.
