Last reply: 30 September 2024 20:46

Hi I'm having surgery lumpectomy next week and can't find a support bra for after surgery. Where can I get one and does it have to be a larger size. Does hse supply them. It's 4 days to my surgery and was only told on Thursday.
Thanks
Siobhan

Dear Siobhan2024.

Thank you for using our online forum. I am sorry to read that you are having surgery, and that you are having issues accessing an appropriate bra. I do hope that your surgery goes well.

The HSE do not supply post-operative bras. Several of the large department stores sell post-operative bras at very reasonable prices and stock large cup sizes. Post lumpectomy you are only required to wear a non-wire bra for 6 weeks- so if you have a good supportive non-wire bra, this should suffice. Alternatively, your breast care nurse may be able to advise you of a post-operative bra stockist near you.

If you would like to speak to one of the nurses, please call our support line. The number is 1800 200 700 and we are here Monday-Friday, from 0900-1700.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse

Hello Anne,

I hope everything went ok with your surgery and that you’re doing well. I was just wondering did you manage to source a support bra or was one recommended to you post surgery. My surgery is scheduled for 7th October and I was also thinking the same as you. I was in Pennys yesterday and they had ones, they looked very good. I have only been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and am not coping too well with the diagnosis so I ended up in tears in the middle of the shop and running out.

Hi Anne,
I had my lumpectomy 4 weeks ago. My breastcare nurse recommended a support bra that zips or can clip up the front from THEYA HEALTHCARE. They deliver very quickly. They are pricey but I wore mine for 3 weeks day and night and found them great support. Also marks and spencers have a bra line for after surgery. No wire and soft. Very best of luck to you. Sending you hugs. Michelle
