Aggressive prostate cancer

Last reply: 30 November 2024 19:22

Hello

I am writing on behalf of my 69 year old father. It has been 10 months since suspicion to diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer. He is now awaiting surgery however he is private and the consultant has informed him it will be minimum 6 months before any surgery.

He is a private patient. Is there any other avenue we can take to speed things up and get him surgery sooner through any route possible. Abroad or public or anything else. Any advice is welcomed.

Thanks again.

Dear formydad,

Thank you for posting to the online community. I am sorry to read that your father has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer and that he is experiencing a long wait time for his surgery.

I would recommend your father speaking with his consultant to ask why there is a 6 month wait and that he would like the surgery as soon as possible. If the timeframe is still 6 months, your father could ask for a second opinion, either in the public or the private sector, to try and get the surgery sooner.

If you would like to call our Support Line on 1800 200 700, Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm, our nurses can advise you on this and help support you both at this time.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse

Thank you for taking the time to respond. We now have an appointment for a consultation in January and hope things go quickly from there.
Kind regards
