Perineural Invasion Present

Last reply: 31 December 2023 07:42

Hi folks.
I'm 53. I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on 16th October 2023. Gleason 7 (3+4). Cancer in 6 out of 17 cores. On right side of prostate. PSA is 3.9.
I see on my biopsy report it says Perineural Invasion Present . Which I gather means cancer is on the nerves inside the prostate which in turn means a higher chance of cancer spreading outside. Although not always. I am waiting to be called to St James for initial chat pre treatment choice ( surgery seems best for me). I was private up to this point as I don't have health insurance.
My question is has anyone any experience with Perineural Invasion?? And what were the outcomes? Honest answers appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean

Dear Sean

Thank you for posting on our online community. I do hope you will hear from others here.

I am sure you are very aware that no two peoples details will be the same. Age, Gleason score, history re PSA and general health are but a few of the differences. You will find that your urologist will be able to give you what his expectations for you will be regarding outcomes.

It is hard waiting to see your team for that initial chat. I wonder would you find it helpful to phone our support line and speak to a cancer nurse. We could help you with questions for this appointment.

If you would like to speak to one of our Peer to Peer volunteers who have been through surgery for prostate cancer we can arrange that too.

Our phone number is 1800 200 700. We are here Mon-Fri 9-5pm

I do hope we will hear from you

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse

Hi
Thanks for the reply. So after my initial chat with my urologist in St James I have to wait until end on 2024 for treatment. Reason being , I have had 5 stents put in heart since October and am now on plavex for a year to keep the old pipework clear. I have been told my outcome will be the same and I am having regular check ups and PSA monitoring. I am trying to get on with life but the C word is always at the back of my mind. I am also being monitored by another consultant for white blood cell anomalies at the moment aswell as starting Cardiac rehab in March. Sure as my dad used to say , " Isn't it good to be busy" . ;-)
