PSMA Pet scan for Prostate
Hi,
I am low risk prostate cancer. I've had biopsy and MRI. Gleason 6.
I think (!) that I would like a PSMA pet scan to give a better image of my prostate.
If necessary, I could pay privately.
How can I get PSMA pet scan??
Thanks folks,
If you do get a referral for a PSMA then where you get it done may depend on health insurance or at least it did for me.
I am with Laya and they cover me for Beacon and Mater Private.
Got done with Beacon (they do 5 scans every second Tuesday), very nice team and results within a few days.
I got below response from Beacon last week:
Currently, we are not booking PSMA scans as one of the isolators which creates the dose is down. We have not been given a date for when this will be back up and running, and due to this we have quite a long list of patients to be booked in for this scan. If you wish, you can get the referring doctor to refer him to us as well as another hospital, and we can add him to our list. If he gets a sooner appointment elsewhere you can let us know."
Seems Blackrock for now is the only option
Dear Carver,
Thank you for posting online.
If you would like to have a PSMA PET scan, you could ask your Urologist if he would request this on your behalf – he would be best placed to recommend where to have this done. You could also ask your GP. For this scan you will need a doctor’s referral.
I hope this helps – if you would like to call our cancer nurses and discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us on 1800 200 700 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
Kindest regards,
