Best hospital for advanced prostate cancer

Last reply: 14 August 2024 11:12

Hi everyone, I live abroad and was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer with a rare mutation. I have 3 young kids so I need to move home to Ireland to be close to family and the wife and kids have more support. What’s the best hospital to get referred to that with specialist is more rare cancers? Note: I won’t have private health insurance, I doubt I’d qualify :)

Hi cr79

Thank you for posting on the online community – I do hope you get some responses.

Just to let you know - the NCCP was responsible for overseeing the development of national services for the treatment of cancer. Treatments include surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).

There are Eight Designated Cancer Centres - for the provision of cancer surgery for adults in Ireland. These are at Beaumont Hospital, Cork University Hospital, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, St. James's Hospital, St. Vincent's University Hospital, University Hospital Galway, University Hospital Limerick, and University Hospital Waterford. Cancer surgery takes place in the majority but not all designated cancer centres.

As an Irish citizen you will be able to be referred to get treatment in any of these hospitals which also have National Rapid access Prostate Clinics.

If you would like to discuss this further, you can contact our cancer nurses on freephone 1800 200 700 or from the UK 00 353 1-2310500 or via email supportline@irishcancer.ie

I hope this has helped.

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse
