Going on a sun holiday
diagnosed nov 11. Finish chemo on 8 may, goin week Holiday. I wanted to go away before my surgery. Anyone gone away so soon after chemo. Any tips. I heard you are more sensitive during chemo.
Well my oncologist was put out that I booked so soon after chemo finishes however I have 11 days to build up my blood count. I am nervous now when I saw his reaction. I have good medical care and travel insurance, but really I was too anxious to get away and should hav delayed a while longer. great news for you both you deserve a nice break. I hav an MRI before I go and then a meeting with my surgeon to discuss op. I really needed some sunshine and change of scenery before the next stage. Take care and enjoy yr hols.
Wrt Surgery: I had a Radical Prostatectomy in 2008 and was advised not to undertake air travel for 3 months after surgery. Another thing to consider is your travel insurance - check out the cover/wording regarding illness. There are risks wrt travel insurance - you're probably obliged to inform your insurers, but if you tell them they may impose restrictions on cover, etc. Otoh, lots of people travel during and following chemo, with no problems.
Sorry to put this spin on things when you least need it. Good luck, and enjoy the break!
There is not as such danger but it will be good if you avoid being out in sun from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Its the time sun rays are at its peak and do major harm. You should carry all the necessary skin and [url=http://www.imageskincare.com:2nsymouk]facial products[/url:2nsymouk].
Hi there,
My hubby was diagnosed in Nov '11 also. He finished chemo on 29th Feb and has since been told he is in complete remission. We are also planning a much needed sun holiday for some quality time away from hospitals etc. We checked with our Oncologist and he has given my hubby the go ahead for a holiday, but did warn he will burn much easier so extra care is needed. I'd imagine each person is different, we wanted to ensure the oncology team thought it was safe for us to travel away from the hospital before we booked anything. Have your team said they are happy for you to travel etc?
I hope you get away some time soon.
