biopsy results timeline
Hi, just a question to the community on timelines for results of biopsies. I had a biopsy last week on a skin issue on my ear. I have been told it will take 4-6 weeks for results, and then they have to be written up and examined; please call back in 6 weeks. So I now have another 6 weeks of unexplained pain and ringing noises. Is this just the way it is now? I am assuming the Dr is not too concerned that I have anything to worry about, but its another 6 weeks on top the time already waiting to get appointments etc
Thanks
Many Thanks for the reply, I guess it just wasn't explained fully by the consultant and I didn't ask enough questions at the time. I'll stick it out until we get the results and hopefully everything will be grand.
Thanks again
Dear Paul D.
Thank you for posting on our online community forum. I am sorry to read that you are experiencing an uncomfortable complaint that required a biopsy.
Each hospital differs slightly in their wait times for biopsy results. On average a routine biopsy can take 10-15 working days (3 weeks) to process. Sometimes specialized stains are used to examine for antibodies, immune proteins, and other markers of certain diseases. If specialised staining is required there is a longer time until the final biopsy result is available. On occasion biopsy results are discussed at the multi-disciplinary team meeting to discuss if any treatment intervention is required. This whole process can take 4-6 weeks to complete.
