Pancreatic Cancer, Folfirinox

Last reply: 16 October 2024 09:40

My story is that I had no symptoms, went to my amazing doctor with a cough, she found that I was tender on my lower left back so sent me to a walk in ultrasound clinic where they discovered the tumour. I had a whipple in April, the cancer had not spread as caught early so my prognosis is good. I know it’s a rare cancer, has anyone else had a whipple and going through Folfirinox, I’m about to have round 8 of 12..

Dear Susan

Thank you for sharing your story on our online community. I do hope you will hear from others here soon. Thank goodness your GP referred you so quickly and the cancer was caught early. We wish you the very best as you go through your last few rounds of your chemotherapy.

Going through that surgery is huge never mind having chemotherapy after. You must be really feeling the effects of it all. Maybe while you are waiting to hear back from others you might like to phone our support line and speak to a cancer nurse. There may be other supports such as counselling or advice and information around diet and/ or an exercise programme to help combat the muscle loss commonly associated with this treatment so do give us a call.

There are some UK cancer charities specifically for pancreatic cancer that will also have online forums we can point you towards if you wish.

Our phone number is 1800 200 700 and we are all cancer nurses here Mon-Fri 9-5pm.

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse

Hi Susan

Your story has resonated with me as my mother has just had a Whipple for pancreatic cancer- I realise now how lucky she was to have surgery and for it to be a successful surgery.

I’m sorry that you are going through this difficult journey, I hope you are well supported.

Similar to you she had very few symptoms but once she had the ultrasound she was diagnosed very quickly.

I’d love to know how you got on after the Whipple- any advice on recovery/diet/exercise?

She was on gemcitbaine and abraxane prior to the surgery- I’m unsure of her chemo plan post surgery. She has an appointment next week with her oncologist to discuss it.

Wishing you well,

Sally
