Be Breast Cancer Aware - STOP LOOK CHECK

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and self examination is very important when it comes to early dedication

Each week on Facebook and Twitter during October, we  will release an image from the "STOP LOOK CHECK" series created by Alison Baker Kerrigan, a Fine Art Photographer who has developed a number of photographic projects to continue her support for breast awareness.

The photographs are a representation of everyday items, referencing slang words for breasts. Each image comes with a playful line of text to question, incite humour and direct engagement between the idea, the image and viewer. "STOP LOOK CHECK" is a multilayered project directed towards both men and women with the message of: Before putting your hands in our pockets, consider putting them on your own breasts first.

Think of the multitude of 'Pink Ribbon' products that are available, do these products make 'You' - STOP and LOOK and CHECK? Commercial Advertisement is a multimillion-euro industry that targets society with visual representation that is instantly recognisable. However over-use of this technique can result in ‘Awareness Fatigue’, where the viewer only partially acknowledges the information in the advert. So next time you see an ad for Breast Cancer Awareness, as you possibly will on several occasions during October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, please STOP and LOOK and CHECK!
