Community-based Counselling Services Annual Report
Coping with cancer can be difficult. Patients and their families may experience anxiety, fear, anger, sadness and depression. These feelings can occur at any time during their cancer journey - even months or years later. Counselling provides emotional support by allowing people to express their feelings and fears in a safe and confidential environment.
In 2009, the Irish Cancer Society moved from a direct service model to the provision of grant funding for counselling services. In 2012, the Society provided funding to 17 affiliated cancer support services for counselling. Each affiliate returned statistical information regarding the counselling service which we have collated both by the individual service and nationally. We were delighted to be able to present this information to the affiliates who received grants for 2012 and we hope that it will help in their development planning.
