DHL Express raises €12,000 for the Irish Cancer Society in 3 months

DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, today confirmed that since it announced its partnership with the Irish Cancer Society as its headline charity in Ireland for 2012/2013, it has raised €12,000 for the charity thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of its staff, service partners and subcontractors.

DHL Express raised the funds through a number of innovative fund raising activities including charity breakfast meetings; bake sales, raffle sales, prize money donated by staff from an internal activity, Movember and the annual company contribution in lieu of sending Christmas gifts to customers. However, DHL Express has also been working with the Irish Cancer Society to provide First Aid and Health and Safety courses, which are run by qualified DHL Express trainers.   “Having achieved so much in such a short period of time since the partnership began in October, is testament to the team’s passion, enthusiasm and genuine commitment to the charity and is truly overwhelming,” says Mike Farrell, Operations Director, DHL Express Ireland and member of the DHL Express charity committee. Corporate social responsibility has always been at the heart of DHL’s operation and over the years we have supported many local and international charities. “ Emma Barrett, Corporate Partnerships Manager for the Irish Cancer Society said: “We are absolutely delighted with what has been achieved by the DHL Express team. When we first met in October of this year, it was clear they were committed to working with the Irish Cancer Society and getting everybody involved in their fundraising activities, innovative logistic solutions and volunteer programmes.  The DHL Express team has really dug deep in donating their time, expertise and money and I look forward to working with them throughout 2013.”  Corporate responsibility is an integral part of DHL’s Strategy 2015 and making a real contribution to our society is a critical element. During 2012, staff, service partners and subcontractors the length and breadth of the country volunteered their time and raised money for various charities around the country. Earlier in the year, staff from DHL Express Ireland and Team Ireland raised funds for Straight Ahead and The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation through the DHL First Nation Home challenge. In September, the DHL Express Irish Management Team conquered the Focus Ireland Four Peaks Challenge and raised €7,500 for Focus Ireland. Staff from the DHL Express Shannon and Cork offices turned out in force to support local projects and most recently, 17 Mo Bros and 1 Mo Sista participated in Movember to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.
