Help stomp out cancer and cross the finishing line for the Irish Cancer Society in this year’s Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon

Choose to participate in the Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon for the Irish Cancer Society and give cancer a run for its money

Thousands of women have decided to put on their running shoes to get fit, have fun and raise money in this year’s Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon, taking place on Sunday 14th October. This year, the Irish Cancer Society is appealing to runners, walkers and joggers to cross the finishing line on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society and raise funds to provide care and support to people living with cancer in Limerick. Cliona Hegarty, National Campaigns Manager, Irish Cancer Society said “The cancer challenge in Ireland is an enormous one. One in three of us will develop cancer during the course of our lifetime and this year alone it is estimated that 30,000 people will develop cancer. We rely on the public’s goodwill and support to continue to provide our free nationwide patient care services. We’re encouraging women in Limerick to participate in the mini marathon in support of the Irish Cancer Society and help outrun cancer. We’ll support them every step of the way.  Most recent data from the National Cancer Registry shows that 1,048 people were diagnosed with cancer in Limerick in 2009. Cancer will affect one in three people during the course of their lifetime. However more people are surviving cancer because people are being diagnosed at an earlier stage and treatments are advancing through research. To choose the Irish Cancer Society as your charity, CallSave 1850 60 60 60, visit www.cancer.ie/munster-mini-marathons or email fundraising@irishcancer.ie
