IBM and Dell's work with the Irish Cancer Society leads to Social Responsibility Award shortlist

The Irish Cancer Society is delighted to announce that IBM and Dell have been shortlisted for Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2012

IBM has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Community - Partnership with Charity (MNC), for their Centennial Grant winning project with the Irish Cancer Society on the Care to Drive programme.

Over the past 18 months volunteers from IBM have helped the society develop a smart cloud-based system to support the expansion of Care to Drive, a free, volunteer-delivered driving service that provides transport for cancer patients to and from their hospital treatments at any of the hospitals participating in the Care to Drive scheme.

All Care to Drive volunteer drivers are specially trained, reference checked and Garda-vetted before the Irish Cancer Society approves them to take a patient in their car. This service is free - the Irish Cancer Society asks for no payment from the patient or any of our partner hospitals. Dell, meanwhile, is shortlisted for its support of Daffodil Day, the Irish Cancer Society initiative which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012. All funds raised from Daffodil Day provide a range of free nationwide patient care services. Dell's three-year sponsorship of the event started in 2011, and has been supported by more than 2000 employees at Dell campuses in Cherrywood, Co Dublin and Limerick, with the company's contribution exceeding the €150,000 mark in 2012.  The Awards take place today (Thursday, September 27th) at the Burlington Hotel. Everyone at the Irish Cancer Society would like to take this opportunity to wish IBM and Dell the very best of luck.
