Key speakers confirmed for public meeting on melanoma in Ireland

The Irish Cancer Society, in partnership with the Irish Melanoma Forum, is taking part in a public education meeting on melanoma in Dublin later this month and several key speakers have now been confirmed for the evening.

The meeting takes place in the Stanley Quek Hall at the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute in Trinity College Dublin at 6.45pm on Thursday, November 22nd. Key information about melanoma:• Melanoma skin cancer is the most serious form of skin cancer• The number of cases of melanoma diagnoses in Ireland has increased over recent years, with 837 new cases diagnosed in 2010 Some of the things you will learn by attending this public meeting:• Find out what you can do to reduce your risk of melanoma skin cancer• Find out what you need to watch for to spot melanoma skin cancer early – early detection saves lives The evening will include talks from Dr David Gallagher, Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Mater Hospital, on whether melanoma could be hereditary; Dr Patrick Ormond, Consultant Dermatologist at St James Hospital, on prevention and recognition of melanoma; Prof Mario Sznol, MD of Yale Cancer Centre, on the treatment of advanced melanoma; and Prof John Crown, Consultant Medical Oncologist at St Vincent's University Hospital, on introducing new cancer drugs to Ireland. Dr Paul Donnellan, Founder and Member of the Irish Melanoma Forum, and John McCormack, the CEO of the Irish Cancer Society, will also address the meeting. Visit our cancer information pages for more information on melanoma skin cancer.
