Irish Cancer Society volunteer driver David O'Connor

Meet David, an Irish Cancer Society volunteer driver

Support for cancer patients is vital according to David O’Connor, a Volunteer Driver from Glanmire, who drives chemotherapy patients to their appointment. Speaking at the launch of Cork City’s Daffodil Day campaign recently Mr O’Connor urged local people to get involved in Daffodil Day and fund supports for patients.

“I’ve been a volunteer driver for five years now and it’s great to be able to lighten a person’s load when they are going through cancer. I know of patients who had been using three buses to get to hospital before they found the service, and others who found the financial strain of paying for taxis very difficult. I’m full of admiration for these people and what they are going through, and if I can make it that little bit easier then I’m delighted to do that.

"By supporting Daffodil Day you can help ensure other families get the same vital support.”

Thanks to the support of our amazing donors and volunteers and the generosity of all of you who support us on Daffodil Day, over 1,300 patients were transported to their treatments last year. Thank you!
