  • When: 7th June 2014 @ 6am
  • Where: Starting Point: Moylagh Community Centre, Dromone, Oldcastle, Co Meath. Covering Meath, Westmeath and Cavan.

The Annual Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge is a 50 mile walk to raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society and the LARCC Centre. The event is run on a national level attracting people from all over the country and abroad. The challenge gets its name from an endurance test handed down by John F Kennedy to the military to cover 50 miles on foot within 20 hours. To date over €107k has been raised for the Irish Cancer Society and LARCC.

Due to the success of the last 2 years, the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge is now open for registration and is gearing up for its most successful year yet, bringing together people from all walks of life that have a passion to fight cancer in Ireland. The event draws all types of levels of fitness and it is important to note, that you can do as much of the walk as you are fit for, you don’t have to do the full 50. Stewards will be present along the route to help out or get you back to base. This is the third year of the event and is a professionally run occasion providing all attending with a day to remember. This year we want to smash our previous year’s efforts and hope you can attend to help us achieve this.

You can register on the official Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge website here.

Each individual that registers will get a sponsorship card and further details on the event. There is a minimum sponsorship of €50 to be raised. This can be done both online via the mycharity.ie event page created by the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge organisers, where you can set up a sponsorship page, or offline on your sponsorship card. You can also register on the morning - the walk starts early, commencing at 6am. The organisers ask that all participants be onsite by 5.00-5.30am in order to give time for registration, while there will also be a warm up and a short briefing before the walk begins. Thanks to Ballygowan Water, you will be well hydrated on the day with Ballygowan providing water for the event. Also thanks to Newstalk FM’s Chris Donoghue and team for their support. Newstalk presenter Chris Donoghue battled cancer at 23, and the death of his mother when he was just 14.

If you can't participate you can also supporting the Irish Cancer Society by texting ‘CANCER’ to 50300. Texts cost €4.
