Profile: Lyndsey, Hodgkin Lymphoma survivor

Lyndsey was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma back in November 2013 after going to A&E with a flu and viral meningitis. She was only 25.

Lyndsey had been getting a lot of infections, and had been feeling run down and tired but had put it down to her job and the fact that she had just finishing a Master's Degree. A chest x-ray showed an abnormality and Lyndsey was sent for further tests after which her diagnosis was confirmed. The tumour that was beside her heart had massively affected her immune system so it was unable to fight off the flu infection, resulting in meningitis.

She went on to receive a course of intensive chemotherapy and successfully fought the illness.

Cancer changed Lyndsey’s life in many ways, including forcing her into making a decision to freeze her eggs before her treatment.

She is a founding member of YouCan Ireland Cancer Support Network, an organisation lobbying for increased age appropriate support for people in their 20s / 30s and 40s. She is now living in Tennessee and due to get married at the end of September 2019.

Everyone at the Irish Cancer Society sends their congrats and hopes you have a great day, Lyndsey!
